Stunt engine vs concrete
Concrete wins!!!!
No that is not an illusion, the crank is that bent. Received some spare parts today so all will be well again. The plus is I will go from a standard bushing to a full on BB setup.

Let's see.
Crank shaft bent and crankcase smashed.
Would the spare parts be a new engine?

More or less Ian,
I have a used one coming. I was sent a new one from Marvin Denny, but it was so nice I decided to leave it alone and purchased a used one. $25 scored me a nice used BB and I will pull off the P/C and head and swap in the modified parts.

Yes, a couple times. It flies well enough, but the Cardinal was lighter and a little more nimble. I need to put this one up again and see how it does. It's been a while. Power is a K&B .40

Re: Stunt engine vs concrete
I'm sorry Ron.. Is (was..) that a Fox .36X? I hope that the Cardinal(?) that you had it on.. is repairable.
Re: Stunt engine vs concrete
Roddie,
The engine in question is a Fox .40, not just any Fox .40 though. This one has been modified by Lew Woolard aka. Silver Foxx. Plenty of info on the net about him.
Since I broke the engine down for repair I had a good look at the modification work. It has an ABC set in it that has altered port timing. The crankshaft intake has been modified as well as the crankcase itself. It has an L&J head on it and a ST NV to round it off.
Before I broke it with a huge dose of stupid, it was the best running Fox I owned. I have several of Lew's creations in .40 and .35 form. If you have the opportunity to grab one then do it. You can send also Lew an engine and he will modify it for $35-40 plus parts. It's worth it. Don't delay as he is 90yrs old and not many like him around anymore.

Re: Stunt engine vs concrete
I've had confrontations with concrete flying Leckies but never glow. However, I did make a stupid $300.00 mistake with a pretty much still new still breaking in Moki 2.10!
About 10 years ago, I had a World Models 80" Extra 300 that went full throttle into a 4x4 fence post due to a radio hit after only a few flights. After I got home, I took the engine apart for inspection and clean up and I put it away. A couple weeks later, I got a Hangar 9 27% Extra 260 and on the first flight, the engine was a little hard to start but it seemed fine when it was running so I took off, flew for about 3 or 4 minutes and Dead Stick!!!
I thought maybe it ran out of fuel but it still had plenty of fuel left in tank. I went to start it again and it was seized up! Turns out that when I put the engine back together, I must have forgotten to tighten the glow plug all the way which caused it to run lean enough to scorch the sleeve bad enough that it peeled the chrome away and even distorted the crank case! I was going to rebuild it but it would have cost almost as much as a new engine. So I ended up having to buy a new one.
