So I received a free TeeDee 15 engine today. First I thought it was an .09 but I measured the bore and stroke (twice) and it is the big one. It has a thin wall cylinder and a CL venturi so it is pretty old too.

There are a couple of issues of course. The plastic part that holds the carb is cracked and epoxied, and the glow head has been drilled through, probably an attempt to install a standard plug. It seems that Mecoa has replacements for these so that's OK.

BUT: The piston has this strange circle on it, it seems that the area of the circle is slightly recessed too. Is this normal? The other thing is that the conrod - piston ball joint is slightly loose but there is no reset tool listed on any of the usual suspects' pages. Would the .074/.09 tool work on this?

I'll post a couple of (most likely upside-down) photos from my phone since my iPad won't co-operate Huh...

N E 1...?

The circle on the piston may be related to the slack on the ball joint Huh... Maybe the piston has traveled too far. The brown stuff in the recess seems to have itty bitty pieces of metal in it, possibly glow filament?

Parts for this type of TeeDee are hard to find, it seems.

The circle looks too perfect. I don't have any Cox .15 so I can't compare.

I don't have any early .15's except a Sportsman. I don't recall the piston looking like that. I am not home to verify either.

I agree with Phil though as that circle looks perfectly concentric.

The bits of steel could just be shavings from when the head was drilled.
