ya that might be a good idea, i have tried starting it, it did start to fire but the fuel backed out of the carb... so ya it did start

Does yours use a proprietary glow head or a short glow plug?

It would be easiest to just buy a new engine. They go for 5 - $10 on Ebay.

If you don't mind me saying do, you have a lot to learn before jumping into this hobby. Your best choice a small engine would be in the Cox family where there any number of parts vendors that may supply the parts you'll probably need. Here are two:

Both Matt and Ernie are fequent contributors here on the forum and both are known for being very helpful with all sorts of Cox matters like parts.

Please go to their sites and see what they have to offer.

Buying an old, out of production relic will only lead to problems as their parts are often NLA (no longer available). Glo-plugs may be adapted from other engines but many parts can't i.e. gaskets, pistons, cylinders, crankshafts etc.

Further, keep reading this forum for the information to be found here. There's a bunch.

lol i tried it with a 4.5 prop

Can you purchase the "short" plugs they use? Mine is in perfect condition physically, but if it ever burns out....

Kinda doubt it but I've been surprised before. That's another item on my list of experiments...in that seeing if one of the short O.S. plugs can be shimmed up and used. Simple test, but I keep forgetting to try it.

Also, M.E.C.O.A. has head adapters for Wen Mac's but I believe they're for later models. Need to check that too, as I've got some of the Wen Mac / Testors Engines.

'Short' plugs are out there, surf eBay for Swanson Fire Ball, Fox makes them as well as others, in a pinch three plug washers will make a 'long' reach plug 'short'

oops i was incorrect in one of my other post i said it was a wenmac .049 mkxi, it is actually an earlier wen mac .049 it is a mark 2

OK...posted in on it's own in the Off Topic Section, but figured to repeat it here since this thread is what caused it to happen.

Got a Wen Mac Mark-III to run just fine on an O.S. #8 Short Plug. I just used the gasket that came with the plug ('bout the same number of threads showing as the original).

The fuel was New Sig 25%, with a 5-3 gray prop.

Held good in the high 13.000's on RPM...with an occasional surge up past 14,000.

Think the O.S. Plugs might be a bit expensive...haven't check yet. I've had this one for a while and don't remember what I paid for it, but figure to get some more, and save the originals.

Just checked with my Local Hobby Shop...he has O.S. Short/Medium Heat #8 Glowplugs for $6.99 + tax. So, not too bad.
