Glo Plug Igniter

For a Cox .049 Black WIDOW glo plugh can you use the stick type igniter that you push down on and click into place or do you have to use the clip on type with . 1.5 V battery?? Thanks

You need the clothespin type clip or the flat leaf spring clip that came with the old plastic Cox planes and cars.
Or you can use a Merlin glow plug and clamp ring which is shown below.

Those are available at CoxInternational and ExModelengines. You'll need extra copper head gaskets when you run those, but they are good plugs and will accept a spring type stick igniter, but not a push-and-turn.

If you elect the Merlin plig (the one rusty is talking about) make sure you order the head shims and start with three shims and go from there. (Bandit)

Ok, I'll see if I can clarify things a bit here. Cox engines with the stock heads require the as stated Push on cox clip or the clothespin type that clips onto the engine. The Merlin (insert type) which requires a clamp ring can take the push on (cox) clip, clothespin type or the spring loaded clamp type of glow battery, it is NOT compatible with the cam (Push and turn) type of battery like the Hobbico HOTSHOT brand of batteries. In order to use the Cam type you have to have a head adapter that uses a standard plug which are available from both Cox International or EX Model engines The Cam type will only work with a standard type plug which are found in the larger engines. Sullivan does indeed make a adapter that fits the push and turn opening and on the other end is the Sullivan clothespin clip.

ok ok calm down the push and turn are good because they give your engine more performance also you can yous a pair of alligator clips to connect it to your battery Very Happy

My spring loaded sub-c igniter is getting to where it falls off my inverted and side mounted engines

However it lights a plug brightly. The sub-c igniers don't last long with 1/2A because of their finicky nature and extended glow needs. This is also true of the push and turn shown below, but they do hang on tighter.
