Amazing day of flying and fellowship. Rain slowed us down for a bit but that time was spent bonding and story telling....best part of any gathering! Smile A real treat to finally meet Kim and hang out after years of watching his classic videos. Felt like we've known him for years. My daughter thinks Kim's an awesome guy.....me too! Looking forward to four more days of fun at the greatest model aviation event in the country.

Well dear CEF friends..my travel to the S.M.A.L.L event is canceled

We have had three 3"~4" rain days in a row this week and today is number 4.... my ground has been saturated since early April and twice since then we have had to shop vac the water out of several rooms in the main house

Forecast for tomorrow through Sunday is another 7 to 9 inches, roads and low water crossings in my local area are barricaded

My property is up on the side of a hill/rise/mountain depending how you think of elevation areas in basically flat terrain. Ha a Texas mountain we are on...at top is 495' above sea level and my property is 300' above the nearby creek/river that fills a large reservoir.  House dead center of the 2.5 acres with front yard sloping down to county road 7 feet lower than average height of the property. The real problem is the 1.25 acre back yard that is dead flat.

As the rain fall sometimes comes down so fast the standing water level in the back yard rises above the brick siding weep holes at the back side of the house.  Decades ago we had a series of these events and got rid of all carpeting for tile floors, installed gutters, french drains and thought we were good to go. Then Ma nature recently looked down and said, " Fred I can defeat your plan"...I will give you 3 inches in twenty minuets as see how you fare...

Bummed about not meeting my CEF friends...but can't leave my wife and dogs to deal with this alone

Hang in there Fred,
Been flooding here too in Texas and no relief from the rains till Sunday. The ground is so saturated
no chance of speedy drain off. All the lakes are overflowing and draining out their spill ways into the
surrounding communities. Rescue operations for animals and people underway.

This Texas flooding is unbelievable. Y'all have way outdone our October rain event, which left us piecing things back together even now. I'm not intending to be humorous when I say this, but I guess a concrete diversion gutter around the back and sides of the house would be a project that would keep you busy for a while. Kind of like a miniature LA River.
Sorry your plans are washed out. I know Kim's disappointed too.

Fred, Very sorry to hear your plans had to change. It really stinks when you're looking forward to getting away to a fun relaxing time and due to circumstances beyond your control, you just can't. I know I was getting hyped up about going before I got the violation(s) notice from the city. Really bummed me out. I know now why my wife said
" Go, go have some fun, take your time driving home" ......she and a bunch of her quilting friends left this morning at 5:30am to drive to Ludington, Mi to catch the ferry boat ride over to Milwaukee to go fabric shopping! What a bunch of crazy ladies. Glad to be Home Alone, just me and Oscar the cat. Sounds like you are doing the right thing, staying home taking care of the ranch. Get every thing shop vac dry and air dried out before it gets all mold covered.

Fred-Sorry you couldn't make it. You've made to right decision to stay put...I'd do the same in that situation. We pray all will improve soon and hope to see you at SMALL 2017.

All the best,
Tony & Evelyn
