Cox TD .051 Propeller

Cox TD .051 Propeller
Hi all. So, I am in need of a couple of propellers. I have a couple product engines, Bees, a Black Widow, and a TD. Reason for this, is will a TD .051 run a 5 x 3 Yellow Safety Tip Propeller ok, or do I need the standard non safety-tipped black 5 x 3 propellers? I was planning on buying 3 of each anyways, but would just like opinions before ordering. I also just noticed that both the standard black non safety-tipped props, and the black safety tipped props had the same features with the exception of the safety tips. Main thing is that I fly by myself for fun, no contests, and not a whole lot. So speed and TOP performance are not that critical. Anyways, thank you in advance for any help you may be able to provide.

Hi, New.
For your lone wolf flying and obvious concern for the possibility of flying blood, the yellow safety props are the perfect choice.
Don't expect much for performamce, I've seen few engines that will turn anything but the lowest RPM than any other brand of props. Buy they are tough, almost impossible for me to balance. Pros and cons considered, I'd choose them.

Re: Cox TD .051 Propeller
Yes, the safety tip 5x3 will run and not hurt the engines on your list. It is not a very "good" performer as the prop will flex. If you are till landing poorly it will not break. It can even be buried in the mud and survive to fly some more.
Add some 6x3 props to your order. The larger diameter will hurt RPM but can give more bite in the air for more practical thrust...
Yes, I know the calculators and the test stands say the 5x3 will provide more thrust due to higher RPM on this engine size, and larger diameter provides more thrust on larger engines. (The break even point of diameter vs rpm providing thrust is somewhere around .09 - .15 depending on quite a few different factors including fuel, altitude, and engine design)
I think it is a rubber ducky thing that the lower RPM has less blade flex so the prop performs enough better that it outperforms the higher RPM. I assure you that with glass filled props the rpm/diameter/thrust relationship is true.

Thank you. That is just what I was looking for. So, I will get 3 safety tipped in yellow and 3 in black....

My best experience while flying TD051-s for many hundreds of hours was with the 5x4 prop that COX Int'l sells..

Very durable, and has good airfoil characteristics..on ground a TD051 should turn it north of 21k and it releases unloaded in the air at 24k

Re: Cox TD .051 Propeller
The larger prop (6x3) and moderate nitro (15%-25%) means lower RPM which generally means fewer ball/socket resets also. For your sport flying this may be a better setup. Something to consider.

Edit: Forgot to mention...for your flying alone you might check out RknRusty's launcher on his videos for 1/2A planes.
