can`t hurt to try
I am just going by my limited experience here guys, 1 model with a cowl in all my years isn`t a lot of experience, my cowl is about 3/4" behind the prop, and only blocks about 1/3rd the prop.
The ww2 paratropers called it prop blast, so thats what I went with.

Ok,
I will try a .020 because it can't hurt but, I will pick up some Texaco pieces just in case.

JPvelo wrote:I say try it with the .020. Prop blast only happens when the model is standing still. Once in flight the "blast" matches forward velocity. The prop isn't pushing air backwards like a fan, it is pulling the aircraft forward due to it's airfoil cross section that creates "lift" in front of the aircraft.
Excellent post, JP! Welcome to the forum.

+1.
Very informative.

Baby Bee .049 puts out about the same power as your Tee Dee .020. Try the Baby Bee, it will swing a 6 inch prop easily and even a 7 inch.

Hi, 049flyer,
Welcome to CEF.... or welcome to posting, anyway. I see you joined a few years ago.
You've found a really old thread here, but Cribbs, the OP is online right now. I'm curious to see if you just gave him he answer he was looking for... 6 years later. On Christmas day too.

Not so much, that project had been placed in storage after I picked up the handle. Knowing what I know now I would more than likely choose a different engine altogether.
I do appreciate the reply though and welcome to CEF!

It's cool when old threads like this one resurface. I remember having similar concerns with running a cowl on my 1st CEF Reed-Speed model. Coincidentally Ron... your model for that contest was............
