So, a nice morning out in the shop. Got the parts for the Skylark's second engine from Bernie yesterday, and used today's "coffee high" to assemble the Tee Dee.

Got in a couple good test runs...no leaks, and all the parts seem to be getting along with each other.

Now, unless I again change my mind, the engines for the Skylark are chosen, tested, and ready to boost it up through the ether!!!!!!

Back to balsa chopping!

Lol Kim well done you can rest easy now!

There are bare aluminum ones for the silver tanks.
I am sure you can find a nice project for it.

Gives you this look.
I want to use mine with this brushed aluminum covering for
a vintage civil sport mono plane.

COOLO!!!!!!!!!

I've been meaning to ask (and sorry if this has been covered)...do you make your own .010 & .020 props? If not, where do you get them?

The Cox props are safe to use great for the kids but
do not provide enough performance for my taste.

Cox black rubber props are hard to mod other then
clip their tips. I prefer back cut and reshaping the
airfoil's trailing edge.

APC props are easy to mod but limited to mainly
the .049 engines and up.

The APC 4.2x2 is suitable to mod to a narrow blade
leaving the dia. at or near the same to gain rpm and
increases thrust.

Even after mods most props for the .020 are too robust
and weigh too much putting load on the ball socket
stealing precious rpm.

The best prop with no mods gave me 92 mph with a sporty
plane with throttle. With a 4.8 oz plane unlimited vertical.
This prop is not for kids, not for spring starters requires
starting with a 1/2A starter. Has never broke under use
has never warped from use. Over 160 ish flights with
various projects. Requires you oil it prior to use or the
raw fuel during fill up can take the gloss finish off the
surface. Just a thin oil film is enough to project the
surface. I just rub some spent castor oil on the blades.
Note the brushless motor spins this prop up past 34k
with no issues foam ARF flying wing.

Static 3.75x3 / 22,790 rpm / 65 mph / 5.3oz thrust / 37w
TD .020 / 3.75x3 / 31,257 rpm / 92 mph / Vertical on the prop  Lil Speedy 5.2oz RTF

Requires this spinner for pucker factor

Best prop for the TD .010 provides more thrust and speed than a
rubber 3 x 1.25 the pitch is 2" so tracks faster in a head wind.

The best prop tested thus far is not for kids 3x2 drone prop
Can yield vertical performance crisp loops it will fly the plane
with authority providing all up weight is max 3.8oz. Never had
the prop break under use. Yes the extra holes suck till covered
up with a Valentine bullet spinner.  Very Happy

I use a tap and thread the 1mm bore to the correct size for perfect centering low vibrations.
http://www.helipal.com/dal-3020-2-blade-propeller-black-4ccw-4cw.html

Static: 26,647 rpm 3x2 prop / 2.6oz thrust / 51 mph pitch speed.
Best pass: 33,941 rpm / 64 mph / sport plane in size for the .010 / 4.7oz RTF
More Engine Assembling/Testing. The second Tee Dee tank/mount arrives. Dal-3010

Today I bought this drone prop in orange, purple looks good too.
If it pans out will buy some spare purples. Also note there is the
3x3 should you have something low weight and skinny for faster
flying on windy days. These have a much wider cord proportions
are not as good as black 3020 but these you can back cut and
thus make a 3x2N to bring the rpm up to 36k in the air.

Shown 3020  they also have 3030  and a 2530

Kim,
They showed up in the mail today, stronger than the black DAL Prop 3x2 that has already benched and flown:
More beef at the hub but then the blade has more cord and more stiff.

That is so cool, Brad! I may have to try that at some point! Definitely getting some more of the spinner/prop nuts from the previous site!

Yes the bullet spinner nuts are a nice touch. With Cox engines
it's always fun to snaz them up when able. Your twin will look
great with them!

Cox props have always been designed to yield good thrust over
speed insuring the lion's share of the engine torque is used to pull
typically big span vintage style planes of the day into the air.
The purple prop is more in line with typical cased engine proportions.
Odds are with a 3.5oz RC plane folks would rarely have to reset the ball
socket using either one of these props. Would be nice to have a muffler
and RC carb for testing the purple prop which is likely low load open
exhaust when flying. Est. 46k stock prop has gone 41.98k. Best thrust
would be a narrow 3.5 x 2.

More Engine Assembling/Testing. The second Tee Dee tank/mount arrives. 20191127

Cox Tee Dee .010 / DIY Throttle Sleeve / HQ Prop T2.5x2
Peak 29,635 rpm / 56 mph pitch speed.
Best idle reading 6,702 rpm / servo will help find the sweet spot.
Note at the end the glow plug proved to be loose rotating to the
point of stopping the engine. Tight plug would have busted 30k
