Yes, I am using a Cox copper gasket under the glow head.

Wish I knew that a couple weeks ago. I almost picked up a .061 Norvel spinner and screw for $1.

Decided not to as I no longer had a Norvel.

The prop screw should be a simple M3 bolt, if I remember correctly. NV engines should have these parts too (for $2.95) if you cannot find metric bolts locally.

A Ace hardware should have a M3x16-20'ish grade 8 cap or button head. Luckily ours has 3 aisle's of nut and bolt bins, pull out trays.

Those together are worth about $7, you could have made a profit! Very Happy

A little run up of my .061 after some work

Edit: A scotch tape balanced prop that was eventually slathered in glow fuel. Cheap scotch tape from the dollar store. 19,800 rpm's and still stuck there.

Norvel 061 AME - Page 2 Empty mine......

Post  Jaspur_x Wed Mar 21, 2012 12:56 am

I have the older style morvel .061ame,it doesn`t idle perfectly, and I never tried the smaller props on mine, just 6x3 or 6x4 but they were never reported to be great throttlers aimed more at performance(the ame versions) for superior throttling,go for the norvel074,it is rather famous for its sweet throttling and prop versatility for thrust variance.
The norvel break in procedure is rather lengthy compared to most cox engines, but they last well if you follow the break in guidelines.

It is on the smaller props, +20000 rpm, that they come alive.
I've had around 23500 rpm on an APC 5x3 and 20500rpm on a cox 5x4, once you go Norvel you won't go back...

That's very true!
I am in love with my Norvel.
Jared from what I know you won't get very old performance with an AME with those big props.
Put a 5x3 on that.

If these are meant to be turning such extreme RPMs, why were they fitted with RC carbs that don't throttle well? For speed planes?

The 19,8K, was a RC version 5 port on a Cox 5x3. I have a C/L version 5 port on the stand right now still running break-in fuel thru it. And just found a R/C version 3 port AME,,on it's way. Talked to Alex down at Norvel and he has a 049 piston and cylinder set on backorder for me, along with other bits and pieces sitting there waiting for the cylinder to arrive. They are a rip snorting little motor. This C/L on the stand is still blubbering thru the rich and lean swings, but I can tell once it wakes up it should produce.
