The Most powerful Cox engine EVER
Er
As you can see from the shot below after tinkering last night on the TshureDee, fine tuning and Loasda
NITRO it was producing a lot of power.
So much so It managed to tear itself to pieces 2 mins into the first flight of the day.
The crankshaft sheared flush with the crankcase with the loss of prop, driver etc.
Ah well back to the drawing board.....

The Most powerfull Cox engine Ever
Well ' Johnnie Boy' you are certainly making the mistakes so we don't
have to Wondered if you used a stud per Paul Gibault
to avoid cranks breaking? Apologies to Paul if I miss spelled his name. John

Is there a KB crank in your future?

Re: The Most powerful Cox engine EVER
Yeah, I better get some longer screws before I bust one.

Aha
Great tips as always Guys.
I was about to stick the top end on a new surestart
Bottom end and go flying I'll put that idea on hold.
I'm fairly sure the bolt (not stud) was in as far as
The crank was threaded but I'll check thaT later
Against the new one.
I have got a Bernie KB2 but I haven't been able to
Get her running reliably so haven't bothered
With it. Do I nick the crankshaft from that?
Finally to imagine the 3 seconds it ran sans la
Prop, think the fastest running Cox you've heard
Pumped full of Helium.

Cox forged pistons anyone?
Ok now stripped it to find that as above when the crankshaft snapped giving the prop, screw and driver a
brief career of their own. The revs went through the roof I'd estimate well in excess of 30,000 RPM
the piston let go.
As Paul says in his Mouse racer sticky just putting a longer stud and spinner/nut instead of a screw would
probably have prevented this until the crank pin let go....
There is 6mm more threaded area in the crankshaft for a stud to bite into.

Re: The Most powerful Cox engine EVER
John Boy,
Total destruction! Ooooo! Wait maybe you could put a rod through the case!
Love the pics man! Good stuff. Have you modded the backplate?
Perhaps lose the choke tube......

Re: The Most powerful Cox engine EVER
Thoughta bout it Ron but you know these sure starts are so named I guess cos they're very easy to start
even with all the gear up top and another thing I like is the ability to shut it down by sticking a finger over the tube.

I suppose, I have one and I have not tried it to be honest. Once you bore the venturi out for flow it will be harder to start choke tube or not!

I wanna try 60% in an 010
I got a spare crank lying around.
If the diesel won't break my hardened crank I think 60% would be fun, if not maybe in the norvel
