Re: Cox flight contest begins now!!!!!
Maybe air-time from launch to impact, with laps to count for interest's sake? Wing-overs could still be a lap, I'd think, but loops would be hard to reconcile. Not sure, but figure it to be fun regardless...
I need to get myself a stopwatch on a lanyard like the Big Boys anyway !

I think Kim has the idea. Time spent from launch to impact.....or landing.
The whole idea is to get these things out there and in the air. I will post final rules within the next week.

Re: Cox flight contest begins now!!!!!
Did you cover the idea of swapping the same engine between different R/C and C/L planes? Also, If somebody mounted the engine on a sailplane, would time be counted for the engine run, or for time aloft? I'm all for total engine run time, on either airframe - maybe even the tether car, and air boat guys. Or, should we enter a separate engine in every type of vehicle? Bench-running is out, though.
However you want to proceed, is fine with me!
The guys at the field always gather around when I bring 1/2A stuff out to fly. It could generate some interest, again. Last weekend, I gave a pylon racer a cobbled together .049 and a power pod mount, so he could try out a sailplane he has never flown. That's a step in the right direction, huh?

Yeah, Engine Run Time would seem like a good deal with R/C applications. I almost always have SOME kind of video running, and even if I don't keep the footage, the camera always measures the time. The contestants could still keep track of their TOTAL time aloft just for the coolness of knowing it for themselves.

I don't see why not. After all it is about the engine. Anyone have an objection to this?

Re: Cox flight contest begins now!!!!!
I guess I'll be dusting off the old neglected red white and blue TD .051 Baby Streak. Poor thing must feel neglected lately. I've been wanting to do some re-trimming anyway. It has some warp on both wings near the TE. Sort of like ailerons forcing it to bank right. It might turn out that I like it better that way. It pulls harder on the lines than the faster lighter Norvel powered BFS-II, and it grooves better in pullouts from wingovers.
I'll have to take my earmuffs to the field too, that TD makes my ears ring. I've gotten spoiled by the muffled Big Mig. June 1st, that's a Saturday.

Absolutely, the car guys are making a good home here. We might consider adding a forum for cars.cribbs74 wrote:I don't see why not. After all it is about the engine. Anyone have an objection to this?

Re: Cox flight contest begins now!!!!!
Ron,
I just need to get clear on the time issue, again. Are we counting the run-time only, or to the point of landing? This may sound too whiney, but even I could keep a sailplane aloft for a longer time than the engine runs, therefore, much time could be accumulated with less, actual run-time of the engine. I have no qualms with gliding silently above, accumulating time, as it was the engine that got it there, but what's your ruling? (good one, ruling- and it's supposed to be simple) Any way you want to do it, is fine with me. I'll be happy to participate, and fly some stuff. Remember the Dakota? It still has to be maidened. I need to choose which engine to participate with, too, so the weather needs to cooperate, so I can get busy testing!
Thanks for piloting this event for us, Ron!

Runtime from liftoff/shut off or landing.
So in the case of the sailplane when it shuts down so does the timer. If you still feel like sailing around up there by all means do it!

Alrighty then. Strictly run-time. Got it. Not carrying it around from pit to runway, either. No problem, lift-off to engine stop. Thanks!

Re: Cox flight contest begins now!!!!!
This will be the initial airframe entry of mine, for the contest. I'm beginning the test-phase of which engine to compete with, and there are a few contenders...This one is the TeeDee .051. There is a 1 ounce tank behind the firewall, but room for a larger one! I will try the QRC engine on here, also.
The last time I flew this plane, it did not have ailerons, and used standard size servos, battery and receiver. I have acquired NEW technology, that makes this weigh-in at a mere 13 ounces, before fuel. Muwaahaha! However, that DOES make it less able to handle more than a stiff breeze. Still, this will fly well enough to log HOURS and HOURS on the engine!
Let's see what you're planning to compete with in this contest!
