Lazy Bee with Twin Gilbert Engines

Yep! I'm betting there's a BUNCH of us running around !!!!

I have had no time to post much this week, but rest assured I'm watching with interest.

Taking advantage of a totally unexplainable burst of energy, I suddenly decided to break out the bottles of 5-minute epoxy early in the morning, and set out to get this Gilbert Hammer Head Twin bolted to the Lazy Bee's snout.

Never mind that the day was gonna be hot enough to melt the ballast in your B.O.T., I was gonna make this thing fly.

There will be video, eventually, but I'm tired and cranky right now, so dynamic photos and video frames will have to suffice !!



Managed to solder up a "T" fitting without burning myself.







Tried out a servo-equipped camera boom first, hanging it out pretty far to try to get a good view of the Gilberts.:





Yes, the Gilberts' two-part harmony has the power to hypnotize rednecks...



But the .074 doesn't like hand-launches:




The video from the wing-mounted boom was super shaky, so I strapped another to the belly of the Bee, looking back at the engines.  Then, mowed the Skunk Works' runway to let the Bee make a rolling takeoff.







Still had vibration problems though...





So....











There shall be more!

Gonna post the video later this morning...(mooching the free WiFi at my favorite restaurant!).  I've got a couple other things lined up the the poor Lazy Bee, so it won't get much rest !!

At SOME point, I'm gonna have to actually BUILD something new, and give these retreads a rest.  So maybe this harsh up-coming winter I keep hearing about will corner me into doing some finishing.

Yep, the Duck is patiently waiting out in the storage shed.  It'll be making an appearance before too long...I got to wait for some hospitable temperatures to let me test-assemble the thing outdoors.  With the tiny maneuvering space available in my shop, it's WAY too big to mess with in there, 'lest I cause a bunch of very expensive crashing sounds!



It's been completely rebuilt after it's tragic/incredibly lucky wing failure many years ago, but other stuff kept demanding my attention.

I know all about that. I have a 90" span Composite Extra 330L that has been calling my name as I have nothing to haul it in at the moment. I had a minivan but sold it and I got a 95 S-10 Blazer but it is in need of some TLC and the plane won't fit in my wife's Corolla. Plus I just haven't felt like messing with it.

Yep...that last sentence could answer MOST of the questions I get asked about various activities and projects! When I get "the calling", stuff starts happening fast, and I'm almost along just for the ride !

My problem is that I usually have my iron in too many different fires at one time.
Weather it's work, other hobbies or my family, I always seem to be spread thin.

Yeah, the reason I fly alone so much (OK...there MIGHT be other reasons!) is that even though I live out in the boondocks, my front yard is a bit boxed in, with the only clear shot out and back being to the North, between a cedar tree and along side the powerlines that ALWAYS seem to be present no matter WHERE I fly!

Approach paths for full scale aircraft have names (my house is directly under the "Q-Ball 8" approach for Lambert Field in St.Louis)...so...I named my front yard approach from the North: "The Chute"....makes me feel more official as I play with my toys.  You got power lines on one side, and a cedar tree on the other.  It provides a VERY strong incentive for polishing your glide/power/airspeed/groundspeed/directional input skills in order to keep from having to break out the super glue !!



It's VERY intimidating for R/C Flyers who are used to wide open approaches, but I've been flying here for 16 years, and can usually shoot a good landing from the North, West, and even from the South if I can hook the plane around the house.

Yeah...see that a lot. I think a guy needs to have some still time just to get things sorted, but for a lot of us, when we DO get some slack, we tend to fill it up, rather than using it to veg-out for a while.

I've never heard a rudder called a willie before. And she used a silver paint pen!
