Re: Broken nose, all fixed... Final Installment(s)
OKay, I did some bench running today, and Big Yeller seems to be caddillackin'... No, Sky that's not its new name Lol. But, whatever nickname I give it, I'm going to send Gardener the prize for best suggestions. PM me your address Gardener. It's bad luck to rename a ship anyway, so it'll only exist in the form of a sharpie scribble. Maybe Ol' Rustbucket.
The first crank suggested trouble. I primed it with 3 turns, got a bump, and it fired right up running lean. When I was fooling with the stopwatch, it shut off. I checked the filter and it was clean, so I turned the needle 1/2 turn richer, topped off the tank and tried again.
With 150 ml of fuel and tuned to break when lifting the nose up, about 11k RPM, it ran 4-1/2 minutes sitting on the wheels 4-stroking, and shut off. I pulled 40 ml back out of the feed line while holding the plane in the de-fueling position. Sounds about right. It's about 80 degrees outside. On the next two runs, I held the plane so it could 2-stroke and pull all the fuel out, and it ran 9-1/2 minutes each time leaving no fuel in the tank. No problem cranking after that first try. Maybe it was just too lean that time. I'm leaving the cowl off until it proves itself in the air, so I can get to the plumbing.
I think she's fine. Now I just need to get myself fine so I can fly it. If I'm not able this weekend, I'll get Wayne to fly it.
