Fuel tank cap
Fuel tank cap
I am building a Baby Barnstormer with a pressure TeeDee .049. I need a old style oil cap as shown in the picture. The picture is just an example I copied off the internet and is only to show the oil cap.
With a bit of work these old oil caps can be fitted to be the filler caps on a pressure fuel tank. With some gasket paper they are both fuel tight and pressure tight. To fill the tank just open the cap and fill it up, no need to mess with unplugging any lines.
Anyone know where I can get one, when I was much younger they were everywhere?

Re: Fuel tank cap
I think they were called Gits caps, Woody Bartelt still sells old engine parts, don't know if they could hold pressure though.

Re: Fuel tank cap
Years ago I saw these used for racing models using muffler or crank case pressure and I guess they work fine for the low pressure
I think they were part of the tank vent and lifted slightly while fast refueling then let snap shut and crank/fire go racing

Re: Fuel tank cap
I don't know how much room you have to work with but the Traxxas brand car/truck makers offer tanks with spring loaded fill caps:

If you don't like extra long flights....don't fill it up all the way!!

If Your still looking, they are called, the Real McCoy....In 1871 Elijah McCoy invented a device for lubrication on locomotives....There was lots of imitations,so His was asked for..."The real McCoy"....Still used in Electric motor rebuilders part bins....Z
