Man, oh man, Bob, your pic will make the authors of COX Model Engine Handbook frustrated to realize that more intake screen fixture options existed than so far they - and at least  I, for one - have ever thought... lol!

The cylinder would date this engine back the to the earliest  late 60-s/early 70-s when the thin wall cylinder was replaced by the stepped wall cylinder, but the generous screen fixing tabs must have been a very early design that COX may have abandoned from all Bees that I have ever seen in photos or held in my hands, for cost cutting purposes...of course my experience with COX engines is much more limited due to my geographic distance from the US, than most of you CEF members, so maybe I am just one of the few who are surprised at this design?

You don’t have to buy every one Bob! lol!

No idea about the screen clips, first I have seen of those. Lot of development going on in the 70’s.

Different isn't it.

At first I thought - Someone went to a lot of trouble to put a screen on that venturi inlet.  Then I thought, tiny hands, tiny fingers, tiny ring, tiny clips how did they do that! It must be factory.  Checked the Dannel/Sitter book (again).  Nothing there.  Seems like I have one similiar but I'm not pulling 100 engines out of display cases just to check.  May be factory, maybe not.  Maybe they made many, many, thousands, maybe not.  Will see when it gets here.

Back story:  Seller (ebay) had $55 on it BIN, no offers.  Wow, I just bought seven for $37 in better condition. Seller sells various things, not model engines.  Flea market buyer and flip I think.  I contacted them with an offer of $40.  They countered with $46.  I accepted.  (I really wanted that engine.)  Who can turn down a bent propeller and a used Cox Glow plug clip!!!!

Typing this I see that Ron has chipped it.  Maybe he is going to step on my party balloon.  Smile

Edit add:  Thanks Ron, Eric, and Andras.  You guys know more about Cox engines than I ever will, and it's holding up.

The only upside of USPS to Australia being suspended since September to who knows when? Is that I cant start spending money on all of these old engines you guys can find and buy! Huh... lol! Thumbs Up Thumbs Down Smile I have never bought anything on Ebay and nobody ships to Australia at the moment, so I cant if I even wanted! Seeing these engines you guys find and but there and other places like the links Fred has supplied makes me very envious indeed!!!!! :-)

Cool little engine, I like all the photos and such members post of the engines they buy and resurrect. sunny

Nice engine, and interesting backplate screen for sure. But about that glow plug clip. I may be wrong, and probably am, but I have to ask. Are the glow plug clips from Cox with red and blue wires, and those from Testors were both red wires? Just wondering since teh clip was brought up a couple of times? Inquiring minds want to know!

I have both - Cox clips in red and red/blue. The Testors that I have are black.

The red / red clip at least the ones I have are for the .020. They're a bit smaller and fit the head better. The red/blue is larger for the .049.

I will have to check that out Ken, But I have at least six red/red clips and only one red/blue. Coud very well be though. Something to check out that I hadn't thought about. Cox starter kits would be a good place to check.
