Thanks!

I really spent a lot of time on it. It's even got an LED power indicator in the dash. Laughing Of course I cut quite a few corners and compromised, too.

Me and my family went up to the schoolyard to fly and play around this afternoon. Brought the Cub along, and got to fly it. It flies great pretty much like I envisioned, which is great. The football field is a little small. It took three flights to trim it out. It flies fast, only went to full throttle once - shoots straight up with incredible velocity. Smile It will throttle low enough to land, and it can land and take off from the short grass field. Unfortunately it did not run smooth in the air - maybe a pickup tube problem. The tachometer registered 14K, but then low throttle was 600, so we didn't take it seriously. Smile

But man, does it slobber! Very Happy Took a good wiping down with paper towels and alcohol to clean it. I think I will need to coat some more around the engine area with epoxy.

I have the video on DV mini tape, I will try to get it on Youtube as soon as possible. It's really long and is mostly rubbish. tongue

I love Windows Live Movie Maker. I followed the tutorials below and had good movies the first time. And it's free if you use Windows. You probably need at least Windows 7 and 3 gigs of memory to get results.

Thanks!

It had more than enough. It liked to stall a lot, so I did not try that. I think it was also a wee bit tail heavy, so I only flew it three times. (that was all I had before the sun went down)

Post  microflitedude Mon Dec 05, 2011 2:17 pm

I flew it again today. Did good, but I now realize it's bad habits. Very Happy What?

It flies too fast for the schoolyard I fly in. If the engine cuts off at the wrong time, it goes in the trees - very little control with no power.

It stalls a lot.

It runs rough and throttle response is poor in the air. Is it too rich? too lean?

Good news on the engine, though. Low end RPM is around 5,000. High end is in 14,000 - running a little rich. I think that is pretty darn good considering that is as low as the engines with all that fancy rear airbleed throttles and type B head conversions. It would sit there on the ground obediently until I gunned it into a vertical climb. Very Happy High end even better, with a 6X3, snap starter (cam type), muffler, and a throttle ring. That "nasty" nylon backplate has survived a WOT dive and several nose-overs with no problem. Very Happy

So, all in all, I am very satisfied with the plane. Holding an .020 next to it, I do not see any possible way it could pull it through the air. tongue

Hang in there, seeking help with the video.

Thats a snappy little unit. Congrats!

If you do a bunch of epoxy repairs, make sure you rebalance before flight, side to side and nose to tail. A little bit of weight here and there added onto a small plane drastically affects the way it flies.

I feel for you. I could feel my muscles tense just before impact. What prop are you using? Maybe a 6X2 might slow it down a bit while still delivering the necessary oomph (thrust). Get it back up and going.

Good luck,
