Muffler/pipe for TD, Medallion controlline use ??
Hi, I am modifying a few TD,s for use in competitive
1/2A C/L stunt, contest use.
I'm still experimenting with different piston/cylinder combos and test running with different heads and fuels..
I want to install the finished engine in a rather large full fuselage 1/2A stunt plane.
My question is what type of Muffler/pipe is available too direct exhaust flow outside of an enclosed fuselage??
Has anyone had experience with this ?
I am more concerned with diverting exhaust and oil residue away than reducing noise..
anything available,??
Thanks, Tom

Re: Muffler/pipe for TD, Medallion controlline use ??
Hi Tom welcome to the forum. I also wanted to control castor splashed on the fuselage and used this COX muffler with a silicone extension.
This is not fully castor-tight and will allow some castor to make it to the engine cowl but keeps away at least 90% of what an unmuffled TD would dump on the fuselage. You may improve it with thin 13mm orings added to the neck of a stepped wall cylinder and on top of the black annulus ring on the muffler top. Also wrap the sliding ring of the muffler in sylicon tape used by plumbers to diminish leakage through the muffler door covered by the slide ring..unfortunately this muffler is a performance robber on SPI cylinders.

A number of years ago there was a simple piece of silicone tubing with a hole punched in the middle that was a tight fit over the cylinder exhaust ports. I think Ace made it. It was just a bit bigger diameter than the base of the cylinder, maybe 5/8" ID thin wall tube. You could squash or plug the ends to muffle a bit. It was probably a couple inches long.
