A few months ago, I am without activity in the forum, since, I decided to lose weight, since I was really over the top.
I got back on my bike, which I hadn't used for more than 15 years and started pedaling.
I have been doing it for two months now for three and I have come a long way.
My initial weight was 108 kg, and now I am already 94 kg, a little restriction on beer and food helps notoriously and exercising with the bicycle is giving me health back, so here I go.
These are two photos, the first back in 1997 with my bicycle in a part of my country with a mountain range. The following photos are from yesterday, where I am pedaling through the countryside of my city.
Hug everyone ... take care!

A couple years ago a small team in our company including myself took each summer a 204 km bicycle round trip in one day around our beautiful lake Balaton. I completed the trip in 13 or so hours each time. Since I spoiled myself with my lil Honda Grom in 2006 I have not pedalled my bicycle at all...and gained near 8kg-s in weight..munching on snacks each day does not help me return to my original weight either..but some say most men put on half a kilo each year after the age of 45 no matter what you do..

Well done Mauricio.  I wish I had your level of committment.  I'm taking Lukemiester's advice. lol!
Trouble is, the electric bikes still need to be pedalled and cost nearly as much as a 750cc sports bike.

It is very gratifying to share here topics that have nothing to do with the soul of this forum, but precisely this forum generates bonds of friendship and, I thought it appropriate to share here with you my friends.
Perhaps, I also manage to infect someone and get excited about doing some exercises. I hope to reach the summer with the desired kg.
So as I see you appreciate this, I'll be sharing more news on this topic as I dedicate myself.
Hugs for all!

Time for me to get back on too… Doc says blood pressure is a little high and
gained a little weight since I retired…. I used to put about 1000 mi a year on a road bike up until a couple of years ago when a knee started giving trouble…. Going at it a little more leisurely this time…. The bike is a ‘83 Schwinn High Sierra I used on bike packing/camping trips…. Hope you are still riding yours as well Mauricio…

Hello rdw777, it's great that you start cycling! I really like to go places by bike and enjoy the scenery while burning calories.
Yes, I am using my bicycle, but about 30 days ago I stopped due to medical check-ups. An intestinal upset makes me less active, but once I get healthy, then I'll start full force again.
Thanks for commenting here, I hope you share photos of the places where you pedal. I like lonely places even that way I discover places to fly too!.
By the way, your bike is very beautiful!

Really nice, Robert. I too have a bicycle, and do just like you, but not as aggressively. Most I have biked is 14 miles (23 km) to and from work (28 miles (46 km) R/T), and not consistently. I live on the outskirts of our little town of 38k people, take one of the county roads passed 4 acre homesteads and couple open fields for cattle crops (corn, millet, winter wheat, etc.) about 8 miles round trip.

This morning after a long hiatus (back surgery, visiting gym, etc.) road 2 miles to and fro for 4 (6.6 km), did the same the other night.

At our age, even these shorter distances taking at least 25 minutes or more help. Gets rid of the crazy energy stored up.

Bike you have is a classic. I don't have something as fancy, but through a seller on E-Bay, bought a folding 26" bike, so I could pack it in the car also. It only has 6 speeds, but in general I have found that I don't make use of the lower gears because I'm not doing mountain trail climbing. It is steel frame, a little heavy, but for exercise doesn't really matter.

At our age, we are only in competition with ourselves. Just wished the wife would be willing to join me earlier. She wouldn't have all the heart issues she has now. (Doing yard work isn't the same thing as aerobics.)

Post  andrew Fri Sep 23, 2022 12:24 am

I have been a lifelong cyclist (almost 55 years), but started riding out of necessity since I didn't have a car. I found that riding to and from work gave me a respite from the daily grind and longer afternoon rides were not only healthy, but relaxing. I usually rode everyday unless it was raining heavily -- hot, cold, light snow were OK -- the bike has been my primary transportation. When I came to the University to teach, the son of my department chair was also a long distance cyclist and we would ride 40 to 60 miles a day during the summers. He had cycled across the US and was interested in another long distance trip. After some discussion, we ended up riding from western KY to Anchorage, AK one summer -- unsupported trip and we carried everything on the bikes. I spend 100 days living off the bike - house, kitchen, closet, transportation -- never stayed inside or in a motel. That trip was just under 5000 mi.

My estimate is between 120,000 to 140,000 miles lifetime distance. I still ride, but not nearly as frequently or as far -- it has been a good run.

Excellent Andrew!
An idea, to maintain even more, bonds of friendship:
I would very much like us to share here photos of our walks or bike rides that have to do with exercising and enjoying the outdoors, in nature.
I then invite you to share photos as you practice the activity.

Dear friends, well, as I mentioned that I had momentarily stopped my bike riding, well, everything is fine, it's just an internal hemorrhoid that swells when pedaling. There is no bleeding, only inflammation and discomfort from time to time, for this reason I have been doing some studies for a month and tomorrow Monday I will be God willing in surgery.
The Doctor says that if I operate on the hemorrhoid, it won't bother me anymore and I'll be able to use my bike in peace, so I hope so.
Meanwhile, I asked the anesthesiologist to dope me enough (since they don't give total anesthesia), so as not to have any kind of record, so I explained to her that I'm a model airplane maker and I know what it's all about when you use cutters to cut, and dig things up, so I don't want to think, when they're working on my butt! Hahaha….it gives me a thing! lol!
Well my friends, I send you a hug and as soon as I am back God willing as I mentioned before, I will contact you to let you know my progress.
Hugs! I love you so much! I Love This Forum!

Yes, hemorroids are a pain in the butt.

I wish you a speedy recovery Mauricio! I’m sure you’ll be back on the saddle in no time.

I should also start biking, or skiing maybe in the wintertime. My wife and I take our dogs for a walk daily, I do the morning walk, 3/4 of a mile or 1.3 km every workday morning, and in the evening we go for a 2...4 mile walk, depending on the weather. Or sometimes just walk around the little forest nearby for an hour or so. It’s excercise I suppose, but like George said, one should do something aerobic too. My heartbeat goes up to maybe 110 or 120bpm while walking (I try to walk as fast as possible so that the dogs can maintain their natural pace), and I sweat a little, but I guess I should try to get the heartbeat higher. Boxing is fun too, and definitely aerobic, even if you do it against the sack or your own shadow Smile

Wishing all goes well for you Mauricio…. You’ll be ready to ride again soon!… I appreciate your inspiration to ride again….I’ve been going out 2-3 times per week for a seven mile trail ride…My ride app says it’s about a 500 calorie burn…. Eating a little better as well….Blood pressure is starting to look better…Let us know how you are doing friend…

Roids, such a painfull subject.

Nineteen years old and in the Navy I had an epic case.  For about a week the Doc's had me sit in an "Sitts bath" or words to that effect.  Did not help.  So, in front of God and the world they had me on a table positioned worshiping Allah style, people coming in and out with no anesthesia popped the things.  I never felt it.

Fast forward about 55 years and I had another case.  This time, a civilian Doc had a little more decorum.  Enough of that, I started eating at least five prunes a day, every day.  No more problems.

Prune it up Mauricio, you will be thankful.  Recommended the same to Eric here a year or two ago.  Doctor Bob doesn't make house calls.  Smile

hello guys!, thanks for your wishes!!!
well, the operation went very well, now I am in the stage of rest and recovery.
It is very painful, please, how this hurts!!...but it was necessary.
I'm inactive at my job (my business is closed), I thought it would be faster, but I can't walk very well and I lie down all the time waiting for the pain to subside.
Not to mention when you go to the bathroom! You can't believe it! How painful!!!
This is a photo when I woke up from my anesthesia, I took with my hand what I had within my reach and I wanted to toast "with you for health!... lol! lol! lol!
See you !!!, see you soon ..... how it hurts !!!! Sad  Sad  Laughing  Laughing
