Cox International wish list

The clunk that you get with a 1 oz tank is basically the same size clunk all thru there lineup of tanks. Once it is assembled inside the tank using the fuel line supplied, that pickup assem gets pretty ridgid as far as following the inside of the tank, because the line is 1/8" thick wall tubeing.

One way around it to have a supple pickup is to use a OEM dragonfly clunk and some of this line:

I bought 3 feet of the x-small and the small. The x-small is VERY tiny line and I don't know what I will ever use it for. The small line works the best for fuel pickup in those tanks. Not only do you get a little tank volume back from removing that heavy duty pickup and line, but you also get a fuel pickup that will acctually follow the contour of the tank as you roll it.

The dragonfly clunk works much better, but there is room for improvement. Like I posted above a clunk similar to the OEM Sullivan clunk,,but just in a smaller size.

Thanks for the "heads up", PV Pilot. I thought that pick up was kind of "stiff" inside the tank.

Speaking of washers, I prefer to use the Medallion machined prop washers over the machined TD spinners and you can't ever find those. The TeeDee spinner is too long and can be hard to center on the prop so it doesn't shake. Sure, they look nice but I've found them hard to get right. A short screw and a medallion prop washer is a good way to go with eliminating vibration if your not using a spinner. I don't have as many of those washers as I would like of all three sizes.

I like to use the 1/2" screws as well.

List a Miller starter on around page 24 of the catalog. I think they are based on one that Astro-flite made. I will let you know - I scored a new one on the RC Groups classified the other day for $40 shipped.

Cool!. if you can, and would,,please put a picture up on here and give some thoughts on that starter. I found a replacement motor on Tower with the proper sizing of shaft and can that seemingly would fit the plastic housing of the Astro flight starter, but I have yet to purchase it and try it out. The crazy thing is that I think the starter nose on the astro flight was pressed onto the shaft,,so a person is going to have to heat that up and pluck it off of there quickly.

Here is the motor that I THINK would work with the Astro flight. as posted I havn't bought and tried it yet.

I get 5300 rpms with my Globee and a couple marks,,using redneck math.

As you know, it's not so much the spinning rpms,,but the torque needed.

The Traxxas 21 turn motor should have plenty of torque.

How are 1/2a starters different from regular ones? You're still applying force against crankshaft....

Have a NIB Astro starter, bought it new, wayyy back then.
It Destroyed the first Black widow I tried it on. No thrust washers in those.
Consequently it went back into it's box for 30 years.
Works 'fine' on my Norvels and TD's Although the wee bullet Cox Spinners offer poor grip for the Starter's rubber bung, especially so if a bit of fuel got there first. Gotta be careful with it though, as I can't think of a faster method of destroying an engine.
Astro looks just like the Miller copy :-) Uses what seems to be an S500 motor, I've seen similar ones at a the local Electronics supply house for $5 +-.
Metal Drive cup is set screwed to the 1/8" motor shaft on my Astro.

Just wondering when (or if) there will be any TD .09 Thrust Washers available soon? Last I heard was "in a month or so", back in August.

Really, that is interesting.Would the .020 product backplates be very expensive to produce?
