Yep, as well as a 'production' 09!
Matt
Really, that is interesting.Would the .020 product backplates be very expensive to produce?
How many would buy them is the question...

Yeah, if the person I bought mine from decides to ship it anytime soon I might. Be neat to get longer runtimes on RC models.

Yeah an you would be able to run back pressure if you wanted.

The mold would be really expensive to get made. Then you would have to get the rest of the parts for the 020 made lol.

The whole thing would be nice, (to have the .020 in production again) do you have a ballpark estimate on pricing? I think we were just interested in the backplate, though.

I am not Matt but I would put prices at around $80 for the complete engine or maybe down to $65 but realisticall 80 sounds about right once production, mold and CNC costs are factored in.

$65 would be an awesome price. Makes begin to wonder about the .010....
Re: Cox International wish list
That initial investment to get the first batch out the door would be huge,,gotta have that customer base to sell them all right off the bat.
But, what the heck, I'll throw my pipe dream out there.
a .080 King Bee,,front rotary induction, rc carb, ball bearing crank,,a real screamer.
I know,i know,,with all your over abundace of production money and endless time availible. Lol.

Re: Cox International wish list
For the mold, who knows, depending upon how many cavities, ect. A safe bet would be about 15K or so....maybe more depending upon the cavities.
Engine parts would be pricey as well. Cox used a custom extrusion for the bar stock crankcases then it was machined to spec.
For a run of 1000 pieces your probably looking at a $30 to $40 part cost alone, putting retail around $90 or $100.
Although it is slim, there is a much better chance of seeing TD 049's reproduced.

I think it would be more up at 80 but I was talking to Matt about .010s a while back bit it doent look like it's going to happen buy I've been wondering about them since they stopped being produced.
As I like experimenting but don't Luke risking ireplacable parts.

Re: Cox International wish list
Not a terrible retail, but $40,000 is a lot of cash to invest for a engine that may not sell enough to make it profitable.

I so totally agree with your position and only remind others that this is a BUSINESS proposition and not a hobby for you. How can it be otherwise?
To venture ANY amount of money in uncertain and potentially volitite times is a very uncertain venture.
What's not to understand?

That's what I was getting at. You either do it for love or money, the latter usually not being the case, and if you expect that, your dreams can be short lived in this time period.
You would have to do a sign up, initial non-returnable, prepay type of deal, just to make sure you would have a roof over and a can of beans left over on the shelf.

It's been done before, heck, I have even gone in on deals like that. albeit they were small pieces, but it did work out.
400 x $100 per = $40,000.

Realistically, it might be as high as $150 per,,just all depends on the lowest bidder for the outsourced work. If the price comes in at a slightly lower amount,,then it would be palatable I think.
