I just went back out and checked. It balances just forward of the front leadout. So maybe I'm okay after all. That makes me feel better.

I think it's safe to fly at least level and see how it responds.

Got some decorations on it. I'm not sure I like my canopy colors, but I'll see what they look like out in the Sun under the blue sky. It might grow on me. I'm waiting for my color printer cartridge to arrive so I can put the Russian text on the nose. That'll look like this, under the faux exhaust:
Русь гвоздей
Як-9

Still haven't made those dang exhaust pipes, but if I don't by Sunday, I'll just tape over the bare patch where they'll go. I also have two dinky little triangular fairings to go on the wing root, still in primer along with the air scoop. I'll slap them on before Sunday. After yesterday's balance scare, she's fine and balanced perfectly at least for a maiden. AUW is 31 ounces and change.

Sunday is the plan for a maiden flight. I'll have my video gear going.
Here are some poses. Still have to make the stars for the rudder, a "5" for the fuselage, and have a bunch of little stars to go under the canopy.:

Here are the last pieces I had to make, my engine bearers and fuel tank bracket:

Good heavens Rusty, pat yourself on the back. That is one fine bird my man.

I like the canopy, it looks correct.

I wish I was there for the maiden!

Thanks man, I wish you were too. And thanks for giving me the kit and the Fox... oh yeah, I got a Fox Power decal for it too.
This is the most meticulous build I've ever done. A lot of people might be under the impression that I've built lots of models over the years. But the truth is, I'd only ever built 5 or 6 slat wingers before I got the Li'l Jumpin Bean. Then the Baby Streak and Li'l Satan. Rebuilt the Shoestring, but this is my first full 35 size build, and I turned it into an intense learning experience. I should close this thread with a "What have I learned" post. It'll be a long one.

I got help from so many people here, too many to mention, including you, Ken and Mark. I had hardware that I didn't even know I needed, given to me by another Philly Flyer, Larry Wilkes. He gave me a small Philly club decal that I think I'll put on the under side of a wing as a tribute to those guys, as well as a CEF logo to honor all of you folks that helped me all the while I was over complicating and fretting the details. I've probably driven Ken and Mark nuts with PMs and questions, mistakes and successes.

I'm now a much more confident modeler because of this one plane. My contest Skyray will get the benefit of a quick and competent build as a result. And it'll be powered by an OS fp25 given to me by our member Jason. I'll try to pay back as much as I can by helping and giving whatever I can to whomever I can. Thanks all.
Rusty

Looks good Rusty, nice work!

Rusty, I enjoy helping with info, this is a hobby I've got experience in and its the closest thing I'm probably gonna get to burning fuel (unless I get my racer done) I think a lot of us live vicariously through your building and flying videos!

keep up the good work!

Rusty, I don't mind a bit. I enjoy offering suggestions. Larry always asks how things are going . You just can't ask for better friend like Larry. I encourage anyone to ask questions and ask for advice. It's here and it's free. You just don't get that kind of help today. It really has been a pleasure meeting yourself and Ron. I never thought we would meet up. Kim made that suggestion earlier in regards to someday getting together and flying together. I certainly would love to see that day come. Ken

That thing is gorgeous Rusty! I love the old Soviet/Eastern Bloc planes, industrial design that leans more towards industrial but still looks cool. The big red stars that look they came off a propaganda poster don't hurt the looks either. Great job! Can't wait to see the video.

Thanks, Jim. I really put my whole heart into this one.
I can't wait to make the video. I haven't videoed a flight in a long time, I use to do it all the time.
